The residential units will close for the fall semester at 12:00pm on Wednesday, December 23, 2009.  All residential units, with the exception of wood frame houses, will close at this time.  The residential units will officially open for the spring semester at 9:00am on Sunday, January 17, 2010.  Some units will open prior to this date to accommodate student athletes, international students and other students who are required to be on campus during the break.

Due to the limited services available for students during the break period, the University’s efforts to conserve energy and heightened concern for students’ safety, it is extremely important that students be employed for essential services only.  If you do need to hire a student to work during the break period, the student must submit a request for housing to the Office of Residential Life prior to December 2, 2009.  All students must apply online at www.wesleyan.edu/reslife and click on “Winter Break Closing Information” on our web page.  Residential Life will NOT be able to accept any requests for winter break housing after this date.  Furthermore, all employers should notify Sean Martin in the Financial Aid Office if they need to hire students during winter break, regardless of whether or not the student will be receiving financial aid.

Once we identify all of the students who need to stay in housing during the break, we will determine which residential units will open prior to January 17, 2010.  Please keep in mind that although a student may be working for you, they are not guaranteed housing during this time, and may need to make alternate accommodations.  We will notify all students of their status by December 11, 2009.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact Melissa Powers at x3429 or by e-mail at mpowers@wesleyan.edu.

All residential units will close for the fall semester at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 23, 2009.  All residential units, with the exception of wood frame houses, will close at this time; students who wish to stay in their wood frame house must register with Residential Life on-line at http://www.wesleyan.edu/reslife/Forms/woodframe_house_info.htm.

Students can return to campus at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday, January 17, 2010.

International students and student athletes will receive information regarding winter break housing from either the Office of International Student Affairs or their coach.

Students who wish to return to campus early must submit an on-line application located at http://www.wesleyan.edu/reslife/ugrad_housing/winter_closing.html. This application is due on December 2, 2009 – no exceptions.  Please also note that all applications will be scrutinized and there is no guarantee that your request can be processed.

Furthermore, students who are moving into a new residence hall will not be able to pick-up their keys before Sunday, January 17, 2010 at 9:00 a.m.

There will be a limited number of employment opportunities for students looking for work on campus during winter break.  Students wishing to do so must request housing with the Office of Residential Life by December 2, 2009.

In order to maximize class appropriate spaces for students returning from leave/abroad, the Office of Residential Life will not process Room Change Requests after November 13, 2009.  Students interested in making a room change after this date must wait until two weeks into the spring semester, after all returning students have been placed.  Requests to pull-in a student into a spring vacancy can be made until November 30, 2009.

Any questions regarding these processes should be directed to Residential Life at 860-685-3550 or at reslife@wesleyan.edu.

Broad Street Books will begin returning overstock textbooks this week. Please purchase any textbooks you may need for the rest of the semester at your earliest convenience.

In anticipation of our Buyback event during finals week, the bookstore will be working diligently to acquire your professor’s textbook selections for the coming semester. This will allow us to give you back more money for your textbooks.

You may request suppression of phone, home address and local address information by navigating to your electronic student portfolio and clicking on the Phone/Nondisclosure link in the Enrollment Status bucket in the third column.

  • To suppress information from the printed student directory, you must invoke this option by 5:00 pm on Monday, October 5, 2009. Once this option is selected it is in effect for the entire academic year.
  • You may suppress your local phone number, local address, photo and home address from the Wesleyan on-line directory at any time during the academic year.

In order to facilitate repairs and to protect you from being charged for damages or missing furniture at the end of the school year, please inspect your room when you move in at the beginning of the semester. If you find something missing or notice something wrong with an item in your room, you can report it by filling out a “Room Condition Report” at http://www.wesleyan.edu/pplant/room_condition. The form must be submitted within five (5) days after you check into your room. Your submittal will automatically generate work orders for repairs or replacements to be made, if necessary. You do not need to submit a report if your room is in satisfactory condition.

TelevisionIf you are interested in subscribing to cable television service and have not yet been in contact with AT&T, please note that a representative will be on campus to take your order on the following days. If you are going to share the service with someone with whom you will be living, only one of you needs to contact AT&T. The information to bring with you includes your social security number and the address of your campus housing, including unit number (if applicable).

Through an agreement with Wesleyan University, students may subscribe with AT&T to provide cable television service to their residential unit. The U-Verse 100 package costs $49 per month, and additional set-top boxes (to be able to access the cable service in more than one room) cost $7 per month. Upgraded packages are also available. Interested students should call 860-685-4499, and leave your name and phone number, and best times to reach you. A representative from AT&T will call you to obtain the necessary additional information. If you plan to share the cable service with someone with whom you will be living, only one of you needs to contact AT&T. If you already gave your name and number to the AT&T representative during room selection, you do not need to call, unless you have not yet heard from them.

In order to have your cable hooked up prior to your arrival on campus, you must call the number above by August 7. Requests for service received after that date will be scheduled after students arrive, and you will need to be present for the technician to do the installation.

For more information, go to http://www.wesleyan.edu/its/resnet/cabletv.html. Additional questions may be sent to videoservices@wesleyan.edu.

As you know, the University requires all students (including students studying abroad) to have adequate health insurance coverage. In order to be in compliance you must show proof of existing coverage (waive) or enroll in the university-sponsored plan annually online at www.gallagherkoster.com. This information is required even if your insurance has not changed from the previous year. A letter with pertinent information will be mailed to your home address in mid-June. The deadline for compliance is August 15, 2009. Failure to comply by the deadline will result in a hold being placed on your class registration. The cost of the annual plan is $786 and will be billed to your student account in late September.

Please note that grant aid assistance will be limited. This year Wesleyan University will offer low cost student loans to most students who need assistance covering the cost of the health insurance policy. Please review your financial aid award letter for your specific eligibility (award letters will be mailed beginning in mid-May).
