Join us for our 2nd annual 5K for Brighter Dawns and help us improve health conditions in the slums of Bangladesh! Registration is $10 per person,  and pre-registration is strongly encouraged and can be completed online at our website: http://brighterdawns.org/5k. Check-in at Long Lane Farm will begin at 10:30AM, and the race will start promptly at 11AM. Directions can be found on our website. T-shirts and tote bags can be purchased on the day of the event for $10 and $15, respectively. Walk, jog or run with us to give impoverished people in Bangladesh the opportunity to live healthier lives!

Brighter Dawns is a non-profit organization committed to improving health conditions in slums in Bangladesh. Although we have been operating for just over a year, with the help of generous supporters across the country, Brighter Dawns was able to complete its first project in the summer of 2011, constructing 15 wells, 20 latrines, and 3 bathrooms and distributing sanitary kits to provide clean water and sanitary conditions to over 5,000 slum residents of Ward 12, Khalishpur, Bangladesh. However, there are still thousands of people in Ward 12 who are placed at risk of deadly water-borne diseases every day simply because they lack access to potable water and sanitary facilities. Through the help of our donors and partners, we hope to expand our project to provide all of Ward 12 with equal access to these necessities, reducing disease and generating hope for a healthier tomorrow.

Join us for Wesleyan’s 5th Annual Fast-a-Thon, the kick-off event to Hunger and Homelessness Week!

Participants are invited to join the rest of the campus in donating the points they would use, and/or a meal swipe to the Amazing Grace Food Pantry in Middletown. (If you donate more than 15 points you are automatically entered into a raffle to win a $100 gift card to Best Buy! )

This event raises money to fight hunger in our local community, and demonstrates solidarity against poverty across all boundaries. Considering the catastrophic storm that hit Connecticut, and especially Middletown with great force, this event is all the more important to the community.

Don’t wait, donate now!

All participants are invited to the interfaith banquet Tuesday the 15th, at 5:45PM (the above time is incorrect, but uncorrectable) in Beckham Hall, with FREE dinner from Haveli India and free t-shirts.There will also be performances by campus musical groups as well as captivating speeches about different religions’ practices of fasting.

Seats at the Banquet are limited, so come early!

Thank you, and we hope to see you there!

Sponsored by: Interfaith Justice League, Muslim Student Association, Haveli India, Bon Appetit, Office of Residential Life, Office of Religious and Spiritual Life, Office of Community Service, SBC, SALD.

Do you remember last year’s Fast-a-Thon?

1200 Wesleyan students, faculty, staff, and local residents participated to raise over $14,000 for the local food pantry.

This is the one event on campus that is able to engage nearly half of the student body!

This year’s Fast-a-thon will be even BETTER!

If you’d like to help us with this year’s Fast-a-thon, join us at the meeting for volunteers:

What:   Fast-a-Thon 2011 Volunteer Meeting
:  Monday, November 7th, 4:30pm
Where: PAC001

The idea behind the Fast-a-thon is to donate the points/meals that you would have eaten that day towards the Amazing Grace Food Pantry. Considering the catastrophic storm that hit Connecticut, and especially Middletown with great force, this event is all the more important to the community.

We really need your help to make this year’s Fast-a-Thon a success! If you can’t make it to the meeting but want to help, send an email to achaudhry@wesleyan.edu. Get excited, and we hope to see you there!
